Answer: Teaching can be categorized into several levels. Average teachers confined their teaching to textbook materials or simply read whatever textbooks say. Better ones will supplement compiled materials. As for excellent teachers, they will also teach practical experience. There are also people "teaching" ("repeating" to be specific) whatever they just learned from others. Those people have magical speech power but very little of their personal experience. But there are always best teachers who not only have abundant clinical experience, but also integrated it with various theories. Those teachers are constantly perusing for study and research. Their knowledge is current and updated. I have always urged myself to work very hard to remain in this category.
One of a very precious feature about my teaching is that I do not hold back. I teach as much as possible within limited time. I also focus on both theories and practical use. My goal is to teach people how to fish instead of just giving fish. After learning with me, one should be able to think independently and apply the learning with flexibility. Every time after the lecture, when students are leaving with great harvest and still wanting to learn more, I feel very satisfied and encouraged to work harder.
As for my teaching of Tung" Acupuncture, the most different feature from others is that my teaching is "live". If a theory is not concluded from continuing practice and vice versa guide the new practice, it will be a "dead" theory. In the past decades, I made deep study of Nei Jing, and Yi Jing, etc. and constructed some theories, such as Zhang Fu Bei Tong, Ti Ying Zhen Fa (Body Correspondence Needling Techniques), Tai Ji Chuan Xi (Tai Ji Holography), Wu Shu (Five Elements) Tong Qi Xiang Qio*, etc. These theories are the keys to demystify the miraculous effectiveness of Tung" Acupuncture. I also explain and elucidate those theories on how to apply them in clinical practice. All these are the results from decades of hard work without cessation. I am confident to say that no other Tung" Acupuncture instructors could reach this level of teaching, and people taking my class would validate this.
* "Tong Qi Xiang Qio" is a term adapted from Yi Jing (Theory of Changes). It literally means creatures that have similar affinity in their natures seek one another. (Back to Page Top)
I was told the locations of the "Three Lower Huang (Emperors)" points are different from those mentioned in the book. How to locate them correctly after all?
Answer: The "Three Lower Huang" points include Shenguan (Tianhuangfu), Renhuang, and Dihuang. Although in the book Renhuang is said to be overlapped with Sanyinjiao (Sp6), Master Tung actually located it three cun superior to the upper border of the medial malleolous, and so it could be called Upper Sanyinjiao. As for Dihuang, it is located 7 cun superior to the medial melleolus, or one cun above Lougu (Sp7), or three cun superior to Upper Sanyinjiao. As Lougu (Sp7) is three cun above Sanyinjiao (Sp6), and Dihuang is three cun above the Upper Sanyinjiao, Dihuang could also be named as Master Tung" Lougu. However, as Tung" disciples and those who have been to my classes should have known, Master Tung located Dihuang with fluctuation. Sometimes he located it three cun inferior to Shenguan; while other times he located it three cun superior to Renhuang. (The locations of Shenguan and Renhuang are unchanged.) The gap in between the fluctuated locations is the key for profound effectiveness. Those three points constitute the Big Dao Ma of Quan Xi (Holography) in treating Spleen, Liver and Kidney simultaneously. This effective point combination is very commonly used.(Back to Page Top)
Answer: Sanchasan (A04) point (pic. 13-2) (excerpted from the newly published "Tung" Acupuncture"Points)
Locations: At the joint base between the fourth and fifth phalanges, on the dorsum of the hand. Make a fist to locate the point.
Indications: common cold, headache, shoulder pain, five sense organ diseases, sore throat, tinnitus, palpitation, red swollen & painful eyes, urticaria, leg pain, ptosis, heavy eyelids, myasthenia, boost energy, and benefit Spleen Qi and tonify Kidney.
Explanation and elucidation:
Sanchasan is located between the fourth and fifth phalanges, but is closer to the fourth phalange. Insert the needle underneath the tendon and adjoin the bone. As the insertion is close to tendon and bone, it can treat Liver and Kidney simultaneously. Meanwhile, the insertion penetrates through Zhongbai (Zhongdu (Sj3), a Shu-stream point, and Xiabai, a Yuan-primary point, it can also strengthen Spleen and enhance Qi. Since this point is located in Sanjiao meridian, through the extra relationship of Kidney and Sanjiao, it can tonify Kidney as well. Because this point treats Spleen, Liver, and Kidney simultaneously, and also enhances the immune system, it is very effective in treating the above indications. (Back to Page Top)
Answer: Around 20 years ago, I completed the 8 best-seller Chinese medicine books and acupuncture publications and all of them had been adopted as textbooks. These books and publications have more than 20 current editions. Furthermore, many celebrities, millionaires, national renowned athletes in Taiwan, ministers, and congressmen have all been my patients. I have even had the opportunity to treat the vice president of the R.O.C (Republic of China). Therefore, at that time many people and journalists called me "Master" because I treated many prestigious individuals. Since I was young at the time, I considered the title "Master" as an encouragement for me to accomplish even more. Among the past 10 years, I have lectured in many different countries and venues. Many people still refer to me as "Master" as a sign of their respect for me. I cherish all the opportunities and experiences that I have been given and deeply appreciate the gratitude I have received.
The hardships and effort I have made in the Chinese medicine field have improved the lives of many through natural healing. These are the accomplishments I have contributed to the advancement of Chinese medicine.
Graciously, I personally enjoy the comments that they made of me when "Dr.Young" Chinese medicine collection" published in Korea. They declare me as an "amazing contemporary medicine doctor who applies the Eastern philosophy to explain Chinese medicine systematically." This title embraces a broad, yet profound aspect. The people" support provides a total validation of my holistic efforts in Chinese medicine, acupuncture and I-Ching. The recognition I have received has been inspiring, much appreciated, and an encouragement to continue to work hard and make further advancements in Chinese medicine.(Back to Page Top)
Although Master Tung never talked about the theories behind Tung's Acupuncture when he was alive, he did once answer his students' question about the origin of Tung's Acupuncture. According to Master Tung, "The origin of Tung's Acupuncture is rooted in Nei Jing, Nan Jing, Yi Jing (I Ching), Daoism (Taoism), as well as the accumulated experience from the long-term clinical practice." Therefore, if one is without profound knowledge of Nei Jing, Nan Jing, Yi Jing (I Ching), Daoist (Taoist) Medicine, and more than 10 years of clinical practice, it would be very difficult for the person to teach or pass on Tung's Acupuncture well. Anyone seeking for a good teacher of Tung's Acupuncture should have this basic understanding in mind.(Back to Page Top)
