(about Dr. Young's books in China)
Are books sold in China authorized versions of Dr. Young’s books?
No, all titles sold in China are NOT authorized by Dr. Young. ALL publishers or individuals distributing his work in China are doing so ILLEGALLY.
Why doesn’t Dr. Young have a distributer or publisher in China?
Dr. Young does not work with publishers in China due to negative experiences working with them in the past. He allowed the government sponsored publisher 中醫古籍出版社 to print and distribute “Tung’s Acupuncture” in 1995. Though the titles were reprinted 5 “official” times and beyond the contracted time, Dr. Young never received royalties, not even once.
What royalty does Dr. Young receive for books sold in China?
The answer is NOTHING. Dr. Young receives not a single penny for the years of hard work he put into writing his books when books bearing his name are sold and bought in China.
What sites are selling Dr. Young’s books?
Here are the known sites (not limited to these) that allow for individuals to sell pirated material:
Who are selling pirated versions of Dr. Young’s books?
Here are the known individuals/publishers that are ILLEGALLY printing and selling Dr. Young’s books. They disregard Dr. Young’s copyright and intellectual property. These parties disrespect Dr. Young and profit off his hard work. Please do not buy from them!
If the books sold in China are not authorized, why do they looks just like the ones Dr. Young sells? Aren’t these books by the same publisher?
Dr. Young’s publishing company is named American Chinese Medical Cultural Center. Those who are pirating Dr. Young’s material often make exact facsimiles of Dr. Young’s book without changing even the name of the publishing company. Just because the copyright holding publisher is printed on the cover by no means make the book an authorized versions.
How do I make sure I buy a legal version?
It is very difficult to tell authorized versions apart from unauthorized, but you can:
- Make sure that the title has actually been published by Dr. Young. For example, Dr. Young has not yet published material on “One Needle Therapy” or “Shang Han Lun” in Chinese. There are books for sale that may have been taken its material from Dr. Young’s blog or seminar hand-outs.
- Make sure that the publishing company is listed as American Chinese Medical Cultural Center everywhere on the outside and the inside of the book.
But the best way to ensure that you are buying a legal copy and that Dr. Young receives compensation for his work is to buy directly from his website www.drweichiehyoung.com or from one of the distrusters listed on his site. If you are in doubt, you can always email us.
